Community Grant Opportunities
The Warren Kiwanis Club raises funds each year for the purpose of supporting non-profit projects within the Warren community which are reflective of the defining statement of Kiwanis International: Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
The Kiwanis Club of Warren's catchment area is Warren City, Lordstown, Howland and Warren Township with a stronger emphasis in Warren City. (Note: some funds awarded by the club may encompass a broader catchment area). Funds will be awarded to non-profit agencies and organizations which are consistent with the Objects of Kiwanis International:
- To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material values of life.
- To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.
- To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business, and professional standards.
- To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.
- To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.
- To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.
Erwin J. Kline Memorial Scholarship
Each Spring, The Warren Kiwanis Club awards a number of $500—$1,000 scholarships to Key Club seniors attending Warren G. Harding, Matthews, Niles McKinley, and Lordstown High Schools who will to attend a regionally or nationally accredited college, university or technical school after graduation.
The Six (6) Permanent Objects of Kiwanis International are listed below:
1. To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material values of life.
2. To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.
3. To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business and professional standards.
4. To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive and serviceable citizenship.
5. To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service and to build better communities.
6. To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism and goodwill.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
1. Must be a graduating senior from Warren G. Harding, Mathews, Niles McKinley, or Lordstown
2. Must be a current member of the Key Club, and have been a member for at least two (2) years
3. Must have served as aa volunteer at the annual Warren Kiwanis Turkey Trot during your senior year
SELECTION
The Warren Kiwanis Club Scholarship Committee will select the scholarship recipients on the basis of evidence of likelihood of successful completion of the applicant’s course. Considerations will include academic standing, achievement in courses related to proposed field of study, character, personality, leadership, co-curricular activities as well as any other qualities deemed worthy of emulation by their peers. Financial need will be considered but will not be an exclusive criterion. Preference will be given to Key Club members who have served as volunteers at Warren Kiwanis sponsored events and/or attended Kiwanis events and activities.
FINANCIAL PROVISIONS The awards will be paid by the Warren Kiwanis Club Treasurer directly to the schools selected by the individuals to whom the scholarships shall be given. The monies are to be applied to tuition, books, and study materials and fees. The Warren Kiwanis Club is a community service organization whose income from year to year is never certain; there can be no guarantee that these scholarships will be available every year. However, it is the present intent of the Board of Directors to continue the awards each year; 1. If the necessary funds are available 2. If worthy students make application for these scholarships While these scholarships are in the form of an outright grant as opposed to a repayable loan, the Warren Kiwanis Club will welcome voluntary repayment of the awards, or any part thereof, in the future should the recipients so elect. Such action upon his/her part would assist the Warren Kiwanis Club in making these particular school scholarships a permanent project so far as the club is concerned.
